Halloween, Here We Come

We are in full on Halloween preparation here! I have been cutting costume patterns and prepping to begin the mounds and mounds of sewing that will commence in the next few days. We are a little abnormal in that we create a float for the town parade every year. A couple years back I was dismayed when we took our two little boyz to participate in the parade and there was such a low number of entries in the float portion. But the thing that prompted me into action was that because there were so few entries a bunch of 10 and 11 year old girls scanty clad as Daisy Duke from the Dukes of Hazzard sitting in the back of a red pickup truck won third place. I was appalled at the highly questionable outfits were being rewarded by our town’s Parks and Recreation board.

So the next year I set out to at least put another entry in.
We did a PacMan float and came in second place.

The second year I got some friends to enter the competition too, and that year we entered a Super Mario Brothers themed float. We got second place that year as well.

Last year the competition really heated up.
We did a Superheroes and Villains themed float and this time came in first!

Now we are on a quest to defend our title. One of my friends who is doing a float is really bringing it! Which excites me, because all I have ever wanted was to make the parade more fun and have more participants. Whatever happens, happens. But in the meantime I will be sewing, paper macheing, building and painting my way to Halloween.

This years theme is “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown”. We have 18 people to costume, and I think we have the entire cast of characters pretty much covered! Check back to see the finished product!

  1. Your not abnormal…my family use to do the float entry back in the day every year too!!! It's fun fun fun 🙂 Good Luck this year, Jaime McCosco-Greaves

  2. I hope I bring it! But I am not as crafty, creative, or organized as you. What ever happens, happens…Your home made costumes will put my store bought to shame, I can't wait to see your finished product. I am so happy about the time change for the parade, but it is going to really kill my ideas for the lights on ours. It will still be fun. Good luck!

  3. WOW! LOVE IT! and way to go toe to toe with Daisy Duke. That is fabulous. I too am sewing costumes. But not quite as ambitious as yours…

  4. What fun. We currently live in Africa and there will be no fun fall festivities… boo.

  5. That's such an awesome idea! I never knew that you could just do a float… I thought it had to be corporate sponsored or sell an idea or something. Way to bring it!

  6. That looks like so much fun!

Good luck, I hope you win again.
