Egg Noggin

The Desrochers family has enjoyed the Christmas holiday immensely, and we hope you have as well!

The day was highlighted with our traditional morning of family time, where just the six of us open our presents with each other. We have breakfast and then open our stockings. We enjoy the leisurely pace of it all. Toy packaging is opened (or should I say breached, as opening new toys has become the equivalent of breaking into Fort Knox as of late-or is that just me?). Batteries are inserted. If absolutely necessary, meaning only after several attempts are made and then unsuccessful, the instruction manuals are consulted. Have I mentioned that I live in a household with five males?

Normally we head over to my mother’s house in the late afternoon for an extended family dinner and present there. As inclement weather was imminent we moved this years gathering up a few hours and started in the very early afternoon with a late lunch. We found out that Eli is absolutely obsessed with ham and has no interest in most carbohydrate heavy and starchy foods. Gabriel was in heaven with his absolute favorite culinary delight–all things macaroni & cheese!

Present time at Grandma’s is usually very interesting, and this year did not disappoint! My mom is queen of all things mail order. She finds some of the most interesting and different items for the boyz every year. This year’s highlights were soft cars for Eli that then can be washed when they get dirty and these great monkeys that are actually sling shots the squeal as they fly through the air that were for Gabriel.

Gabriel also received a dodge ball set from his grandparents. It includes two vest with bulls eyes on them and these Velcro balls. Gabriel and his equally sports obsessed Grandpa headed to the basement for an inaugural game. They had a fabulous time whizzing balls past and onto each other. The delighted sounds of laughter that wafted up from the basement encouraged the other children to head downstairs to see what was happening. Eventually they too were running around and joining in on the craziness.

Which leads us to the great noggin incident of Christmas 2009. In the exuberance in regards to dodge ball, Nathan and Gabriel ceased to pay attention to their surroundings. They ran head first into each other. After much wailing, ice packs and tender touching of Momma and Daddy D it was determined that there was some major bruising but no broken or cracked bones. Lucky for us we had just been schooled in head injuries from urgent care when Eli fell and knocked his head on our bed frame earlier this month.

What did we learn from Christmas 2009? That apparently Nate the Great is more hard headed than Gabriel…

  1. pooor baby, look at that gooseegg! Ah, my little one got one too this week frolicing in his new tent. Looks like y'all had a great time besides for the egg noggin incident!

  2. Man that is one big bump on his head! My boys got that same game for Christmas, but it is still in the package…maybe we should leave it there:)

  3. Merry Late Christmas Jen! I just caught up on the last five posts (it's been awhile since I've had time to read!). I'm off this week and can't imagine how hard it will be to get back to work on Monday. So much is going on, but too much to say here. I hope to call you soon. Love you much!

  5. Merry Christmas! And, guess what?!?! I HAVE A SLINGSHOT MOKEY, TOO! I've had him for about a year now – I named him Eldred the flying monkey! That's going to be a lot of fun for Gabe! I send mine flying around my classroom all the time! 🙂

Say hi to the brood for me!
