Weekend Warmth of Time with Friends

This weekend has been refreshing to me. I am reminded, amidst the cold and gray of winter, that time spent with good friends warms you straight to the core. It was a much needed reminder and has left me rejuvinated and ready to face the week ahead.

Last night I went out with my best friend Kimberlee. We spent the evening at a local inn, literally right around the corner from the road we grew up on. They had a special karoake and DJ night, something that only happens about once a year there. Last year I had grand plans of going with a girlfriend, and at the last minute she wasn’t feeling well and canceled. I decided to stay home and regretted it while parusing the photographic evidence of the night via friends facebook pages the next day.

I remembered that when the same friend ended up, ironically, sick again yesterday and unable to make it. So I called Kimberlee and asked if she wanted to come with me. I am so glad we went! It was a great night of seeing and talking with new friends and old. Catching up with some people we hadn’t seen since high school. Singing along to a memorable 80’s rock block of songs. Watching others sing often interesting and sometimes peculiar karoake songs. Occassionally wondering if there was any possible way to turn the mic down on some of the belters. Being pleasantly suprised by others. We stayed out maybe a little too late. Quite possibly indulged a little too much. Awoke late this morning feeling very pampered with a wonderful Daddy D that kept the boyz at bay with a breakfast and legos extravaganza.

This afternoon an impromptu trip with Kimberlee and my sister Jessica finished of a weekend full of great girl time. We took Jessica’s baby, Mocha Cub, and little Eli with us and embarked on a ladies plus Eli lunch at a steakhouse. Followed by some shopping for birthday and post-surgery presents, new sneakers, bigger baby girl clothes (quite possibly the highlight of the weekend to an auntie with four sons!), and even a little clothes shopping. Despite having to white knuckle drive home through some absolutely lovely winter weather, we had a time to recharge and rejuvinate.

I am reminded how lucky I am to have a husband who can hold his own with the brood and will encourage me to take some me time. I am blessed with wonderful friends and family who I truly enjoy spending time with. And although I was overjoyed to make it home safely to my boyz and here the words “Hi, Mommy!”, it was just as wonderful to have spent the better part of the last twenty-four hours hearing something that has often become foreign to my ears. My first name.

  1. So true! Mommas have to get away too. It's a great thing you got out and had fun with friends… and having a great hubby to take over with the kids. How lovely!
