When You Let A 10 Yr Old Cut Your Hair…

When Daddy D’s vacation started at the end of last week one of the things on the seemingly endless to do list was a haircut.  As he is a mailman and wears a hat on any given day of the week as he delivers mail, more often than not he goes way to long between haircuts.

Not only that, Daddy D prefers a very close buzz cut.  Early on in our marriage he made it be known that with such a simple ‘do he was not about to pay for something that could be accomplished with a $20 clipper set.  Much to my chagrin I was the reluctant barber in this scenario.  Videos were watched.  Tutorials were given.

The first attempt was rather rugged.  I remember Daddy D standing and examining my work in the mirror.  Apparently I had given him bangs.  That was not a good thing.  Easily corrected, but for years I have heard about it prior to each and every haircut.

Needless to say, I kind of dread these sessions.  Probably a substantial part of why the distance between Daddy D haircuts has grown in length.  With his hair brushing his collar and swooping out under the sides of his cap he decided it was time yet again.

Although this time he asked Seth to try his hand at being the barber.  Ignoring my raised eyebrows, and subsequently my protest thinly disguised as questions, he handed the clippers to our eldest and told him to go at it.  He told Seth to do his hair for Father’s Day.

Twenty minutes of focused attention very rarely displayed by Seth and his masterpiece was finished.  Daddy D’s hair done by his ten year old son.

To his credit, Daddy D wore his hair like this for the entire weekend, removing his Mohawk only late on Sunday night.  A very special Father’s Day gift from father to son, and son to father.  Memorable in so many ways.

  1. I wish my husband would let me give him a mohawk. I think it would actually look good on him..

I buzzed his hair for him for the first time, and my trimmer didn't seem to be working well. I grabbed the scissors and started randomly snipping to see if it would be easier with the hair shorter – turned out it looked decent so we left it like that!

That's really sweet. And DS did a pretty good job, didn't he?
