4th of July Night

I was a bit disappointed on the 4th that our favorite local fireworks display wasn’t going to happen this year.  I quickly consulted the online version of the paper and found that all of the way across the county they were having one.  The fourth of July without fireworks when you have kids is an impossibility.  So we piled in the minivan and headed the forty minutes away.

We arrived at the small river town right when the sun started setting.  We listened to the live music playing the gazebo perched high above the river below.
We followed a path underneath the great metal span that bridges New York and Pennsylvania.
We listened to the musical hum of the metal grates as the cars passed overhead.
Strolling down their Main Street we came to an overlook with stunning views.
Gabriel took tried their hand at binoculars spying the last of the boaters on the river.
Seth tried out the free telescope.
John tried to show Eli.
I wish that I got a pic of Eli putting his nose in the hole instead of his eye.
But alas it happened too quickly.
We watched the sun sink under.
We got some ice cream.
And we waited.  We eventually joined the people on the bridge.
Standing above the Delaware River we watched a beautiful fireworks display.  The finale was awesome.  The company of the surrounding community was fun.  They oohed and aahed.  They clapped and particularly wonderful combinations.  And after the finale they cheered.  Full on rousing cheers.  It was a great night.
