Yo Gabba Gabba Birthday Cake

My niece’s birthday party was today.  She had a Yo Gabba Gabba themed birthday party.  I made her this cake for her birthday party.

The bottom tier was Muno inspired, the red, one-eyed bumpy character.  It was a three layered chocolate cake with vanilla buttercream frosting, topped with fondant.  The large bumps were a little too big to stick by themselves to the cake.  I used small lengths of plastic drinking straws secured to the ball of red fondant and then put into the cake.

The middle tier resembles the yellow robot Plex and was a two layered vanilla cake covered in vanilla buttercream and then fondant.

Finally the top tier was Bro Bee.  It was two layers again of vanilla cake covered in vanilla buttercream frosting and then fondant.  I did not level the top layer of the two layers and left it with a rounded appearance.

I had debated on covering the top tier entirely in buttercream tinted green with the grass tip, but decided to keep the clean fondant look throughout.  Also, in the humid July weather last years buttercream covered cake did not fare well.  Fondant seems to hold up a bit better in this sort of summer weather.  I did do the border on the bottom using two thin strips of darker green fondant that I fringed a bit to give more of a “fur” characteristic.  The three horns were also placed on short lengths of plastic drinking straws and then inserted into the top.

I loved how it turned out!  Happy 2nd Birthday Mocha Cub!

Any questions, let me know.
