Happy Third Birthday Eli!

Today is Eli Noel’s 3rd Birthday.  It has been a great day filled with relaxed fun, new toys and lots of laughter.  He has headed to bed, my newly minted three year old, and I am sitting in the living room reflecting on how I blinked and he is three.

He is my baby.  My littlest boy.  Always will be.  So birthdays come with a tinge of sadness always.  The last of everything.  Last week we got rid of sippy cups.  An item that has taken up most of the bottom shelf in a kitchen cabinet for well over eleven years in our household.  I still have to rearrange the cabinet.  It is a barren abyss that keeps reminding me that they aren’t there anymore.  Just children’s cups stacked precariously in leaning towers of primary colored plastic.

This spring the toddler bed was removed.  Only twin size beds in our bustling house of boyz.  We are inching closer and closer to being a diaper-free household.  I am contemplating whether we actually need a stroller anymore, even for long walks.

As hard as it is to lug all of the stuff around, it is harder to usher it out of the house.  To acknowledge the end of your childbearing years.  Moving past mothering infants.  I am determined to enjoy the last year of parenting a toddler.  Come next fall he will be in preschool.

It all goes so fast.  It truly does.  As if to remind me of that, here is my littlest guy celebrating his third birthday…

He is just too cute.

  1. Happy 3rd Birthday, Eli!!!! My son, Elias, will be 3 in nine more days 🙂 I could definitely relate to some of the things you wrote about today, that's for sure! I'm constantly asking myself where have the past three years gone to!

  2. The Polka Dot Princess says:

Cute blog! I found you on mommy blogger and I am excited to follow! If you get a chance, go check out my blog. 🙂 Have a magical day!

  3. Got me teary-eyed…I've been thinking lately how content I am to have just one perfect little girl, but now she is weaned and walking all over the place and all I can think is, “We can't stop here.”
    Love you Mama.

  4. Aw, happy birthday to him. 3 is a fun age. Love the stash!
