Candy Corn “Trees” for the Mantle

Candy Corn Yarn Trees MommaDandDaBoyz.net

I wanted to make a few pieces for a Halloween themed mantle in our living room.  It is currently undergoing a bit of a renovation, and I was looking to add some seasonal decor without too much of a kid feel.  We have a family room and pretty much the rest of the house for that.  But we are trying to make the living room more tuned towards adults.

I headed to my favorite place for craft inspiration, my local dollar store.  I found a bunch of these styrofoam cone forms.

I found two of the colors of yarn in my craft closet.  The cream and the burnt orange were just what I was looking for.  I went and purchased a skein of gold for $2.38.  The slightly muted tones from the traditional candy corn colors lent themselves to a more mature look.

To make the finished product I measured out the full length of the cones and then split it into thirds.  Using just hot glue I then wrapped and glued the yarn around the cones.

I love how they came out!  The texture of the yarn adds so much.

I can’t wait to add them to the mantle, but for now I took a few creative fall pics.

  1. Over here from TT&J. I love this idea with the yarn. I, too, bought these cones from the ever so awesome dollar store to create candy corns, but I did mine with paper. Mine turned out cute, but I do love the yarn, too.

  3. This is such a neat idea! I love candy corn and this looks so realistic.
Visiting from TT&J, congrats on the feature:)

  4. Loved this idea… WHEN I FIRST SAW IT AT THRIFTYDECORCHICK'S SITE recently. Copycat. You could at least give credit to her!

  5. Oh, I'll be popping over to look at what Thrifty Decor Chick posted, as I have never seen it. Hence why I wouldn't have mentioned it. When I am inspired by a particular crafter I always mention it and link to it. If I had seen hers, I would have done so. But in fact I thought up this craft while in the Dollar Tree aisle, I am glad someone else had the same idea!

  6. Wow- these are so fun! Would love if you would link these up to the Scatter Girls' Fall Front Porch Party going on now: http://scattergirls.blogspot.com/2011/09/fall-porch-linky-party.html

I love them! And no worries — I am quite sure I am pretty much NEVER the original creator on anything I do. 😉 Thanks for visiting!

  9. Neat idea! They turned out great. May have to try to make some myself.

  10. These are cute! I love me a Dollar Tree project. I'll have to add them to my list for my next trip.

I'd love for you to link this up at my Halloween Linky! Hope to see you there!
