For Seth’s birthday he wanted cupcakes from the Hunger Games.  We came up with this Catching Fire (book #2) theme.  The fire top of the cupcakes were made putting orange, yellow & red icing into the same large pastry bag with a Wilton 2D tip and pulling out a string of icing away from the cupcake.

For the toppers I added black gel icing color to chocolate fondant.  You could also use the new Wilton ready made black fondant (super excited about this product, no more messy black dyed hands while trying to color the fondant!).
I cut a large circle with a slightly smaller inner circle to make the border.  I used random items from around my kitchen, a cup and a peanut butter jar lid.  Then I took my time and molded the mockinjay.  I just played with it until it looked about right.  The wing details were added using a shell tool from the Wilton fondant and gum paste tools.
They were a huge hit!

I am a Wilton Mom Ambassador, and many of the products mentioned I received without charge.  But as always, all opinions are my own.
