Banana Splits For Dinner

Banana Splits
Yesterday I read a post by a friend of mine, Jeanne, over at The Stir.  It changed my entire day.  It’s about a mother with a son less than two years old who is dying.  Asked what people could do for them, she replied to go have an ice cream sundae, make a memory with your kid.
So last night we let the boyz play outside extra late.  They tried new things.  Nate learned to do a flip on the hanging rings on the swing set.  Seth spent some time with Daddy D learning about riding mowers.  And then   around seven I called them up to the deck for dinner.  A dinner of banana splits.
It was fun to put away our self imposed rules for the night and have fun.  And since rules were out, I didn’t say a word when Nate dug right in with his fingers.
When the boyz asked why, I explained to them about this family.  My breath caught as Seth immediately bowed his head and said a prayer for them.
In this last week of school, with the heat and the crazy that comes along with it, it was wonderful to just be together as a family.
We made our memory together.  The night when dinner was banana splits.  Thank you Roberts family for encouraging us to treasure even the smallest moments together.

  1. I think I got weepy again. So glad to see other families getting in on this.
