Learning to Skate with Shaun White Skateboards #ShaunWhiteSupplyCo

I have four very active sons, and when school is in session they come home with a ton of extra energy!  After spending the summer swinging, having lightsaber battles, swimming and running around all day having to switch to sitting in the classroom and giving it all of their attention can prove difficult.  We have been trying to spend some time each day outside after school to get rid of some of the pent up energy.

Gabriel has had a hankering to try skateboarding for awhile now.  When I heard that Shaun White had a new line of affordable kids skateboards at Walmart we headed there.  We were on the lookout for them, but the regular skateboarding aisle was almost entirely cleared out of skateboards.  Go figure?  We asked an employee where the Shaun White Skateboards were and he directed us to an end cap display of them.  They too were almost wiped out!

Gabe looked through all of them and examined the designs on the back.  Then brought his favorites to the skateboarding aisle to compare and make sure he hadn’t missed any designs.  These were his favorites!  You can check out the shelf behind him and see how young and juvenile the other stock was.  These were by far much “cooler” for my skateboarder wanna be!

 Ultimately he chose this one…

After the bus dropped off the boyz at the end of the school day we put on the protective gear.  Super, super important!  We like to use elbow and knee pads, as well as wrist guards when doing any kind of skateboarding or roller blading activity.

Gabe was the first brother to try.  He figured it out on his own, while we looked on.

After awhile he started trying to stomp on the end and get the skateboard to kick up into his hand.

Then Nate wanted a turn.  He worked a little bit with Momma.

Then a little bit with Daddy D…

He did pretty well!  We did, however, have the normal mishaps.  Excuse the blurriness, but I love his bracing for impact face!  That’s why you get the wrist guards people!

Eli uses a preschool skateboard all of the time.  He did jump off and take a turn on the Shaun White Supply Co.  one though, with dad right there.

But mostly he sat on the ground an pretended to fall off!  And check him out, he was rockin a Shaun White shirt and skinny jeans already today, and that wasn’t planned!

Even our dog Ginger took a turn!

This made for a great afternoon activity!  When your kid’s try something new, they are out of their comfort zone.  They talk with us more, ask us for help and are willing to listen to us.  I loved the smiles and laughs together, especially when the unexpected thing happened.  Runaway skateboards can actually be quite hilarious!  Our eldest was at cross country track practice and missed out on this time, but he can’t wait to give it a go this weekend.  Rarely can something be so much fun for everyone in a family to try together!
