Toy Best Bets for Christmas 2012

Toy Best Bets for Christmas 2012

Christmas is just around the corner, how did that happen?  With three weeks left until the big day I figured I would give you a rundown of my picks for the best toys to give this holiday season.  Even better?  Click the links and it will bring you to Amazon and to the product to help you get the shopping list done with in a few clicks!

For the pre-school and elementary set the big thing this season is Doc McStuffins.  She is a fabulous character on Disney Junior who helps all of her toy friends with ailments raging from missing pieces to fears.  It is a cute show with wide appeal.  The most popular toy of the Doc McStuffins line is the Time For Your Checkup interactive doll.  It is hard to get your hands on, but you can pay the out here.  There are also quite a few other Doc McStuffins toys sure to bring a smile to your little ones face though!  Check them out here.

Back again this year is the Leap Frog LeapPad, but new and improved in the LeapPad 2.  This version has a faster processor and 4GB of memory built in, as well as a new forward facing camera in addition to the one that faces out.  Purchase just the LeapPad 2 for about $99 here or the bundle pictured above for $125 here

FURBY has made a major comeback!  The must have toy of the late 90s is back.  This toy is interactive and is billed as “having a mind of it’s own”.  How you treat your FURBY will determine it’s personality.  When you turn the toy on it will mostly speak it’s own language, FURBISH, but the longer you have it and interact with it the more it will speak English.  Never fear though, the new FURBY also has an app that will help you translate FURBISH and let you know what your FURBY is saying, as well as virtually feed your FURBY and other interactive features. App is optional and works with iPad, iPod touch and iPhone with iOS 4.2 or later.  The FURBY runs around $54 and comes in a variety of colors.  This toy is recommended for ages 6 and up and for both genders.

Girls are loving the Lalaloopsy Silly Hair Star doll. She talks, sings and even dances when she is on her stage.  Her cool interchangeable pink hairpieces trigger unique songs when plugged into her head. Kids ages four years and up will enjoy this doll’s colorful look and fun performances.  She runs about $45 and can be purchased here.

What has become a favorite in our household the last few years, HexBugs, also has gotten an upgrade!  Da Boyz had an opportunity to test out the new Hexbug Warriors.  They love them!   This takes the creatures out of the maze and into the battle zone!  Each Warrior has battle features and can be placed in the arena to compete against each other.  This is a HUG hit in our household.  The starter set goes for about $35 here, but other packages or individual bugs are also available.

On to the video game of the year for my boyz, and a very popular follow up to last year’s Sylanders Spyro Adventure.  The new game Skylanders Giants came out in mid October and is a fitting follow up.  Featuring cross platform play and new areas opened with new characters purchased for around $10-15, this game offers long term play for a family.  This game is popular with both gaming boys and girls, even adults!  It can be purchased in a Skylanders Giants Starter Kit or a Portal Owner’s Pack (just for those that already own the first game with the portal).  Also, be sure to grab a character or two Here to put in that stocking and extend play all school vacation long!

Finally, for that tech loving kiddos, think about the Kindle Fire.  A great price point for a tablet as well as lots of available apps makes this a sure bet to put you on the nice list!  It comes in three versions, be sure to see what one fits your budget and needs here.

What did I miss?  What are your favorites this holiday season?
