A Morning with Jeff Kinney of Diary of a Wimpy Kid
Just before Christmas and invite landed in my inbox and I was so excited to reply YES! I quickly started planning a special Saturday in New York City with my eldest, Seth. Seth is a HUGE Diary of a Wimpy Kid fan, and The Moms had invited us to a Mamarazzi event with Jeff Kinney, Diary of a Wimpy Kid author and Robert Capron, the actor who portrays Rowley in the films. He was so incredibly excited when I told him about the event.
That morning we took a bus into the city and went to the event at Apple Seeds. He got to meet both of them as soon as we got there.
Then we participated in a great question and answer period where both Jeff and Robert answered a great deal of questions about everything from what was the hardest scene to film to why Jeff started writing the books.
After the question and answer period we had the privilege of having Jeff Kenney talk about his drawings, cartooning and how to draw yourself.
It was awesome to get to watch him draw himself (left), Greg (middle), and even draw a cartoon of one of the kids in attendance (right)
He even signed Seth’s very first copy of Diary of a Wimpy Kid he has had for years.
Seth then sat down and tried his hand at drawing himself.
I loved watching how intent he was on getting it right.
When he was done creating his own cartoon, he got to show it to Jeff Kinney and talk about, and Jeff even signed that too!
Seth then got a copy of the new DVD just released, Dog Days, as well as a book on the making of the first movie. He devoured the whole thing on the bus ride home.
Thank you to The Moms for hosting a fabulous and memorable event my son will not soon forget!
No compensation was received for this post. We did receive free merchandise for attending the event.
