Heart Chevron Tutorial

Today I get to show you the center of my Valentine’s Day mantle, my heart chevron!  So far I’ve covered the pom pom wreath and the subway art, but this is my favorite thing that I have come up with for the holiday.

I started out with a 16 x 20 art canvas.  I then painted it aqua with acrylic craft paint.  I used a foam roller from the dollar store, easy and not costly so I can throw it out after.

I then measured and marked the center of the canvas.

I used my Cricut to cut out a bunch of red and pink hearts.  You could hand cut them or even find paper or foam ones at the craft store.  I started out placing the base hearts in a line, and then added the flipped hearts on tip in between.  I adhered them with mod podge.  Then I finished with a layer of mod podge with a foam brush.

Here is the finished product.  I prefer to showcase it with the top layer of hearts upside down.  Visually, I feel, this lets your eyes grasp the chevron.  This was what I wanted to feature, the chevron pattern, so this is how I have it on my mantle.

Hubby, however, likes the hearts right side up.  To me that make the hearts pop out and become the feature or the piece for the eye.  But if that’s what you like, go for it!
