Wordful Wednesday- My Runner

Wordful Wednesday

Things have been difficult for Seth as of late.  He has had to deal with some things that frankly break my heart.  I have worried about the anxiety and stress it has caused him.  The toll that it has taken on him.  I want to be sure that my child has not been irreparably damaged.  That his character and personality are not compromised.  Because then, and only then, do they win.

But through it all he has run.  Ran for miles across the rural countryside all fall in cross country.  Running through hallways after school, now a member of the modified indoor track team.

Last Wednesday the entire D family went to the local community college to see him run in a meet.  But before he ran, they had a bit of a problem with the high jump mats.  My scrawny seventh grader jumped in and straightened them out.

It made me kind of claustrophobic just watching.

Then he raced.

Two races that he did well in.

Although high above the college gym floor is not the best place to have to take pictures.

After his races he sat on the gym floor with his teammates.  Talking.  Laughing.  Smiling.

It was a welcome sight, the glimpses of my boy.  My kind, chatty, friendly, caring boy.

They have not won. He is still here.

It is well with my soul.

  1. I ran…to escape things. I loved running, I did it to think, to cry and to just be. My thoughts are with your son.
