As the holiday season starts to gear up, I’ve been thinking more and more about the things that I can do for others around me.  So much seems to be centered on wish lists and the I wannas that I feel like sometimes I forget the spirit of the season.  That’s why I am happy to participate in Random Crafts of Kindness from Consumer Crafts!

My best friend works for the Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) in our county.  She and her team spend most of their time during this season working late to make sure application are processed and those in need of emergency heating help don’t go without.  That means that while so many are traveling, enjoying holiday events or spending time with their family, these people are putting in long days and even nights.

So I decided to make them pick me up boxes as a Random Crafts of Kindness.  I headed to the Consumer Crafts website and ordered my supplies:

Paper Mache Rectangle Box-4.75 x 3 in

3×4 Snap!™ Cards

Assortment of Washi Tape, your choice

Baker’s Twine: Red and White Twist

Round Silver Wedding Favor Charm Pack – Thank You

Decoupage product (Mod Podge or your choice)

Scissors

Foam brush

I love how well priced all of the craft supplies are at ConsumerCrafts.com, and how nicely they come packaged and shipped.  I’ve made several orders with them, and am always impressed!

I set to work on covering the paper mache boxes with the washi tape.  If you haven’t used this before, it is so simple, fun and creative!  Just basically like working with masking tape.  Cover your item and cut!  Keep adding rows until your box is covered.  If you have excess, just wrap it over the edge.

Next I set to work on the box tops.  My hope is that they keep their little box in their desks with their favorite treat in them, and when they need a pick me up it’s there!  So I went through the package of cards and found my favorite sayings.

Finishing off with more washi tape.

Now that the boxes were done, I filled the with treats and then decided to finish them off with a bit of pizazz.  Here I tied the box with red and white bakers twine, then tied a silver thank you charm to it before finishing in a bow.

I love how they came out, and I hope the bring a smile to the faces of the team that is working so hard to do the same for others!
