I have received the item featured without charge for purposes of this review.  As always, all opinions and experiences expressed are my own.

While checking out some of the hottest toys for the holiday season at the Time To Play Holiday Showcase, I came across the Crayola See-Thru Light Designer.  I was intrigued by the see through design, as well as the claims for animating your drawings.  So I was excited to try out the See-Thru Light Designer from Crayola as part of our Holiday Gift Guide for 2013.

When the box arrived  I found the designer inside, along with four mini gel fx markers.  It did need three AA batteries that are not provided (be sure to stock up on those before Christmas morning!).

Here is how it looks straight out of the box.  There are two clear panels, the markers and the frame.

I took a panel over to Daddy D on the couch and had him hold it up while I made a face with the markers around him.  I liked the idea of the face on the box and wanted to try it out.

It was hard to photograph, so check out this quick five second video of the two switching back and forth.

This was a lot of fun to play with, even as an adult.  I love the idea of animating two similar scenes.  There are also templates available that you can trace.

In a digital age with digital kids, I enjoy that this is a “doing” activity where they are creative and drawing themselves.  The light effects give it that extra bit of oomph to make it interesting and interactive for hopefully a lengthier play time.

The Crayola See Thru Light Designer retails for under $25 and makes a great gift this holiday season!
