I’m excited to be participating in the Dawn Beyond The Sink campaign. When I found out I’d be using Dawn on tools I grabbed Daddy D! Dawn can clean many things in your garage – like wheels. When life on the road gets tough, Dawn gets tougher. Tools are tough. But even greasy, oily tools need love now and again – tough love. Reach for Dawn.
Daddy D was happy to join me in a quest to find an easy way to clean up his tools. Pre kids he was meticulous about his tool collection. I remember precisely lined trays in his tool box. But once a brood arrived, there has been many a more pressing things than an afternoon on the bench grinder. So the tools could use some TLC.
We set out to try the Dawn recipe of cleaning up greasy tools:
Add a teaspoon of Dawn to a gallon of hot water.
With a dishrag or sponge, scrub away the grease and oil (do not soak hand tools*).
When clean, thoroughly rinse them under running water and dry them with a towel right away.
* Soaking could lead to etching on certain materials
Since it’s gotten quite chilly here in New York, we brought the tools into the kitchen to work. I decided to use a dishpan to add the hot water and Dawn to.
It was easy to clean up the tools using just a scrub sponge and a bit of elbow grease with the Dawn mixture.
In no time we were ready to rinse…
There really is a nice difference between before and after, don’t you think?
I really think working outside in the summer sun could make for a fun afternoon project, letting the tools dry on the lawn. I actually think that it might make for a nice father’s day present for the boyz and I to clean up the tools in the shop for Daddy D! But in the meantime, we can work on the tools a bit at a time in the kitchen this fall and winter.
Dawn is hosting a Pinterest Party going on now through on November 24th. Prizes include weekly prizes of $250 Target Gift Cards and a Grand Prize of a $700 Home Depot Gift Card! Be sure to check it out here! I can’t wait to check out other ways to use Dawn #BeyondTheSink!
